Wow! It has been a great run for our first Farmer's Market in Pittsboro. We are so thankful to all the vendors that have participated and all of our local buyers.
Tomorrow is our final day for the year, so please come out and buy the last of our locally grown produce! As we are winding down for this year, we are already making plans and creating new ideas to making next year's market even better.
Tomorrow, we should have at least two produce sellers and our our very own local honey man. See you at the market!!!!

Staying Healthy
I was just reading from the internet how eating more fruits and vegetables on a daily basis can reduce your risk of many types of cancers. The recommended daily portions are five servings, however, there is evidence that eating more can reduce your risks even further.
I have challenged my family not to eat foods with these ingredients: sodium nitrate or nitrites (these are preservatives that are used in most meat products like hot dogs, ham and bacon), BHA and BHT and propyl Gallate (preservatives used in alot of foods), MSG (flavor enhancer), Trans Fat (Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated Oils), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Aspartame or Acesufame-K (artificial sweetners), food colorings Blue 1,2, Red 3, Green 3 and Yellow 6, Olestra and any other synthetic fats, and white sugar and white flour (whole grains and pure cane sugar are better options).
This is quite the challenge. We don't always achieve complete success, but I have become more aware of the non-food products that are being put into our food that is not actually food.
Healthy eating to everyone!!

It is going to be another great day at the market. We have a few new vendors joining the market and only four Saturdays left. It is becoming a wonderful place to see and talk to friends and neighbors while you buy your fresh produce. If you want to add some locally grown, fresh vegetables to your Sunday brunch, come on over to the market this Saturday!

The first day of the Pittsboro Farmers Market was a wonderful success. There were six vendors, selling sweet corn, green beans, jalapenos, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers and honey (from our very own local bee farm).
It was a delight to see all the people come and visit the market. Some people got out for an early morning walk while others had a nice bike ride, but no matter the mode of transportation, we at the market would like to Thank all of you for coming.
We look forward to many more Saturday morning markets. Next week we hope to post pictures. We will see you then.
